This ASX stock is the most shorted right now and here is what investors should know about the situation and what the future may hold.

Domino's Pizza Enterprises Limited (ASX: DMP

is the most shorted ASX stock right now because many investors still doubt whether the turnaround strategy will succeed even though short interest has eased to 15.2%
The company has a market capitalisation of $1.53 billion and many investors also feel consumer stocks may face more pressure now because of inflation in the near-term.

Margins and sales growth have been under pressure because demand normalized after the pandemic while input costs rose and fast-food competition increased.
Short seller activity increased and investor sentiment weakened because debt is high and international execution risks exist.

The company for the half year 2026 results reported mixed financial performance with network sales down 1.6% and same store sales down 2.5%.
EBIT still rose 1.0% and NPAT increased 2.2% to $60.1 million which shows some signs of resilience even though sales were weaker.

Free cash flow rose 135.4% to $70.6 million but revenue declined in ANZ and Asia because volumes were affected by lower discounting and store closures.

This indicates the business is in a transition phase at the moment while Franchisee profitability increased 4.5% because pricing discipline was better and costs were reduced which is an encouraging operational sign.

Recent developments include a major cost out program of $60–70 million which aims to improve unit economics and overall profitability across the network.
The company is focused on deleveraging and improving franchise profitability while also reducing costs.

The total debt reduced 22% but it still a hefty $682.2 million and short-term sales growth remains weak which means excellent turnaround execution will be critical for a return to sustainable long-term growth.
