Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs)

Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) offer several benefits for investors. One of the main advantages is simplicity. Through a single trade on the Australian Securities Exchange, you can gain exposure to a wide range of assets. ETFs are managed by professional fund managers who use research and investment strategies to track an index or asset class. They are also easy to buy and sell during market hours like shares with a standard 2 day settlement period.

ETFs help investors to expand their portfolios across different asset classes, sectors, and countries. For example, you can invest in shares, bonds, commodities or international markets without buying each investment separately. They also usually have lower management fees compared to traditional managed funds, making them a cost effective option. Investors can earn returns through the capital growth and income distributions.

ETFs also carry risks. Their value rises and falls with market movements and returns may vary somewhat from the index they track. When markets are really unpredictable it can be hard to buy or sell units of an investment. If the government changes its rules or tax laws this can also impact the money you get back, from your investment. Investing in ETFs means the money you get from them is taxable so people who want to invest in ETFs should talk to an expert and get tax advice before they put their money in ETFs.
